Rugby
Inspired by a unique native gem, a pinkish (and tough) marble-like stone featured in the Colorado State Capitol, the Denver Onyx is a professional women's rugby team fueled by passion. Founded in 2025, they compete in the Women's Elite Rugby union. See the team's schedule.
Rugby
Rugby is a sport more often identified with the United Kingdom, but Denver has had a pro ("super league") rugby club for more than 40 years (established in 1967). The Denver Barbarians (known as the Barbos) competes against 15 other club teams from all over the United States, the highest level of competitive rugby play in the country. Head to the new Dick's Sporting Goods Park to catch the club in all their rough-and-tumble glory. The season runs from February to May. See the Barbarians' schedule.
Rugby
The American Raptors is a rugby club composed of athletes who crossed over from other sports like football, baseball and soccer. But these aren't just any athletes. They competed in their respective sports at the highest levels. See the club's schedule.
Ultimate Frisbee
The Colorado Apex is a professional ultimate frisbee team that competes in the AUDL West Division. See the team's schedule.
Soccer
A newcomer on the Denver sports scene, the Colorado Rapids 2 (founded in 2021) competes in the MLS Next Pro league. It's owned by the Colorado Rapids and operates as a reserve team for the parent club. See the team's schedule.
Indoor Football
The Colorado Spartans are a professional indoor football team competing in the National Arena League (NAL). Based in Denver, the team plays its home games at the Denver Coliseum. Established in 2023, the Spartans are dedicated to reenergizing arena football in the region. See the team's schedule.
Public transit from downtown Denver is straightforward, especially if you’re starting at Denver Union Station, the city’s main transit hub. Be sure to confirm your route on the RTD app, transit map or with an employee at the station to ensure you’re hopping on the right bus or train.
Empower Field at Mile High (Broncos):
Take RTD E Line light rail from Union Station to Empower Field at Mile High Station. The ride takes about five minutes, and the station drops you right next to the stadium.
Ball Arena (Nuggets, Avalanche, Mammoth):
Ride the E Line light rail to Ball Arena–Elitch Gardens Station, one stop from Union Station. The arena sits directly outside the station.
Coors Field (Rockies):
Coors Field is walkable from Union Station (about 10 minutes).
Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (Rapids):
Getting to Dicks’s Sporting Goods Park from Union is not recommended and takes a little more planning. From Union Station, ride the A Line commuter rail to Central Park Station, then transfer to an RTD bus (commonly Route 88) followed by a 1.5-mile walk to the stadium. Expect a longer trip and allow extra time. Lyfts and Ubers are often available from the city and along RTD stops.
Helpful tips for game days:
Trains run more frequently before and after major games.
Light rail is usually faster and more direct than buses for downtown venues.
An RTD day pass costs $5.50 and gives you all-day access to the bus and train.
Union Station has clear signage and staff on hand during busy event times.
Denver averages around 300 days of sunshine per year, with low humidity and frequent clear skies. Just check the forecast and bring some layers during the cooler months.
Plan to arrive 45–60 minutes before kickoff or first pitch if you want time to grab food, settle in and watch warmups. For Broncos games and major events, add extra buffer — security lines and transit crowds build quickly.
Downtown neighborhoods make game days simple. Lower Downtown (LoDo) puts you within walking distance of Coors Field and Ball Arena, while Union Station sits one light-rail stop from Empower Field at Mile High. Cherry Creek and Capitol Hill also have hotel options with quick transit access.
Yes. Major Denver venues offer step-free entry points, elevators and ADA-designated seating across multiple price levels. Guest services teams can assist with directions, seating access and in-venue navigation on game day. View the accessibility guide.
Denver’s major sports venues support a range of accessibility needs beyond mobility. Assisted listening devices are available at many events, and Ball Arena also offers tactile services for guests who are blind or have low vision, allowing fans to engage with the game through touch-based tools and staff support. Additional accommodations may include captioning, sensory-friendly adjustments and on-site assistance depending on the event. Availability can vary by venue and game, so checking the venue’s accessibility page or contacting guest services ahead of time is the best way to plan. View the accessibility guide.
